| Full
day trip - Beginner
This trip usually starts in the early
morning when you are introduced to
your guide-instructor. This introduction
is followed by a thorough briefing
about the basics of operating the
vehicle you will be driving for the
rest of the day. The basics include:
• Basic driving skills
• Using the transmission, gearbox,
and clutch to get moving
• Engaging high and low gears
• Verifying tire pressure to
match the conditions you are driving
• Basic towing and recovery
• Convoy driving
Once all this is covered,
comes the fun part, the Drive –
putting into practice all the elements
mentioned above. The Drive usually
starts at our base in the desert of
Ras Al Khaimah after lunch (light
snacks and soft drinks provided).
The afternoon safari
self-drive will bring more than a
smile to those participating! Chance
encounters with wildlife and visits
to traditional camel farms are just
two of the treats that await our guests.
The overall drive does not exceed
4 hours and usually covers less than
40 km, depending on driver and driving
conditions.
The terrain covered
on the drive isn’t exceedingly
difficult, but it can prove challenging
to visitors unaccustomed to driving
in such terrain. However, guides and
support staff are always nearby to
secure the driving environment and
to provide useful tips to all. Their
knowledge is unrivalled, so feel free
to stop, look around, and ask questions.
And if your vehicle gets stuck in
the sand, there’s nothing to
worry about. Learning how to free
yourself from the sand’s grip
while getting un-stuck is always a
great experience.
The safari drive is
capped by a light dinner around a
campfire in a traditional Bedouin
camp set-up that recreates the feeling
that travelers of old used to experience
when night fell. Our onboard chef
will make sure that this provides
a lasting memory to what was an extraordinary
initiation to the fabulous dunes of
the UAE.
